British Fireworks Championships

A summer favourite amongst international students and the local community, this FREE event is sure to spark lasting memories.

What is the British Fireworks Championships?

Since 1997, the city of Plymouth has been chosen to host one the UK’s most dazzling annual events! The British Fireworks Championships invites the top pyrotechnic teams from across the country (aka ‘firework specialists’) to take part in a spectacular fireworks competition. This event is FREE to the public and well worth a visit! The winning team receives a trophy and a cash prize.

When is it taking place?

The British Fireworks Championships 2025 will take place on Wednesday 13th and Thursday 14th August. On each night, the entertainment kicks off on Plymouth Hoe with food stalls, fairground rides, and live music from late afternoon.

Each fireworks display lasts around 15 minutes and there will be three competing teams. The first display starts at 9:30PM on Wednesday so, if you attend, you will see the sky light up over the water at Plymouth Sound. We recommend you bring a blanket and find a good spot ahead of time!

How can I get involved?

Just make your way over to Plymouth Hoe and join the crowd on Wednesday or Thursday this week. Whether you bring friends or go solo, you’ll be part of a wonderful local tradition.

We hope you enjoy this explosive summer activity! Tag us on Instagram @upic_students and share the magic ✨
