Dr. Joanitha Ntangeki: A Champion For Black Excellence
Discover how this creative UPIC tutor builds strong networks for BAME innovators in Plymouth.

In celebration of Black History Month, we’re delighted to introduce one of our talented UPIC tutors. Dr. Joanitha Ntangeki is a central figure in helping entrepreneurs from the BAME community network with local businesses.
Joanitha creates space for budding entrepreneurs to share ideas with others and find the confidence to move forward. She hosts seminars, networking workshops, and community engagement programmes that bring people together. She advised that her main focus is to ‘unlock potential’; reminding participants that they have a voice and their contributions matter.
Looking ahead, Joanitha’s calendar is full of opportunities for people to get involved. On 12th November, she will host the ‘She Leads Summit’ in partnership with Sisters Talk Foundation. This landmark event is designed to empower female leaders and spark new collaborations.
A series of informal community meetups, such as ‘Sip and Paint’ sessions and relaxed coffee catch-ups are already in the diary. She smiled when she told us that people are responding well to meeting up in a fun, supportive environment.
Joanitha’s work is a shining example of leadership rooted in generosity and vision. By opening doors and championing others, she embodies the spirit of this year’s Black History Month theme: Standing Firm in Power and Pride. We will continue to celebrate her achievements, both inside and outside of the College.

Black History Month invites us to pause with gratitude for those who came before us — the courage they carried, the barriers they broke, and the sacrifices they made. Their journeys remind us that progress is possible when hope and resilience guide the way. With humility, we honour their legacy, and with inspiration, we carry it forward — learning, leading, and lifting others so that every voice and every story can find its place.
