Orientation & Enrolment
Your UK study adventure kicks off with Orientation Week: five days of welcome activities that will give you time to settle in, meet other UPIC students, and ask us questions. During your first week, we will take you on a tour of the city and the University of Plymouth campus, and help you with:

Undergraduate and postgraduate students will enrol at the College from Monday 13th – Friday 17th January 2025.
ACCOMMODATION
There is a high demand for student accommodation in Plymouth, so we advise you to apply early. It’s essential you find a suitable place to live before you travel.
ENROLMENT
Dates: Monday, 13th January – Friday, 17th January 2025
Location: University of Plymouth International College, 15 Portland Villas, Plymouth, PL4 8AA
On the day of your registration, you will need the following documents:
• Your valid passport or National ID Card
• eVisa
• UK phone number (if applicable)
• UK Tenancy Agreement (your new address needs to be within a commutable distance from the College)
• Emergency contact details including email address and phone number
If you are missing any of the above documents, you will not be able to enrol onto your course.
Monday, 13th January 2025 – Welcome Day, Enrolment and Essentials
09:30 – 10:00: Arrival & Registration
- Location: UPIC, Room 002
- Collect orientation packs and meet your Student Experience Officers
- Learn about activities, wellbeing services, and campus life.
09:30 – 12:00: Enrolment Session
- Location: UPIC Student Experience Office
- Complete your enrolment, collect student ID cards, and address any outstanding documentation.
12:00: Poetry Matters
- Location: Pastoral and Spiritual Support Centre, 1 Kirkby Terrace
- Make time for the poetry in your life. Find an hour for shared reading and response to classic and contemporary poems with Dr Jonathan Wooding, teacher and published poet.
12:00 – 13:30: Lunch Break
- Opportunity to socialize with peers.
13:30 – 15:30: Campus Tour
- Led by Jake Hutton
- Explore lecture rooms, library, student hub, and recreational spaces.
Tuesday, 14th January 2025 – Enrolment and Essentials

13:00 – 14:00: IT & Digital Services Overview, Timetable Guidance – Anita Lee
- Location: UPIC, Room 007
- Introduction to student email, the learning management system, and key software.
- Learn how to access and understand your timetable and tips on staying organized.
15:30 – 16:00: Social Meet-Up
- Informal networking session with fellow students.
Wednesday, 15th January 2025 – Academic Preparation
10:00 – 10:30: Welcome Talk by the College Principal, Matias Shortcook

- Overview of UPIC, the importance of this journey, and key values.
10:30 – 11:30: Introduction to Student and Academic Services, Dr David Jones

- Speaker: Director of Student and Academic Services
- Overview of support services available to students.
- Academic Expectations & Support
- Workshop on how to succeed in your studies, including an overview of academic integrity.
11:30 – 12:30: Library Induction, Claire Edwards –

- Learn how to access books, online resources, and study spaces.
12:30 – 13:30: Lunch Break
14:00 – 15:00: Workshop: “Living in Plymouth”
- Tips on transportation, shopping, safety, and cultural adaptation.
15:00 – 16:00: Clubs, Societies, and Volunteering, SU President
- Introduction to opportunities for extracurricular engagement.

10:00-10:10: Official Welcome from the Vice Chancellor

- A warm welcome to the University of Plymouth from our Deputy Vice Chancellor (Education and Student Experience), Professor John Curnow.
10:10-10:30: Hello from the Student Hub & Pastoral Spiritual Support
- An introduction to the Student Hub and the various services which are available to support you whilst studying at the University of Plymouth, including a ‘hello’ from Pastoral and Spiritual Support.
10:30-10:50: Student Immigration Support
- Find out more about your visa conditions and everything immigration related
10:50-11:50: Academic Culture and English Language Support
- Student Learning and the English Language Centre will outline what academic writing looks like and where to find ongoing support to develop your academic and English skills and build study confidence. They will guide you through the academic system, from what lecturers expect of you and the importance of academic rules and regulations.
11.50-12.00: Careers Service
- An introduction to the university’s careers service and how the team can support you; from looking for part-time work to fit around your studies, developing your CV, gaining work experience to finding a career mentor
12:30 – 13:30: Reflection & Feedback Session
- Share thoughts about orientation and ask questions about any remaining concerns.
- Complete the new student survey
13:30 – 14:00: Planning Your Semester
- Practical advice for organizing your studies and achieving balance.
14:00 – 16:00: Celebration Brunch
- A light brunch to conclude the week
16:00 Onwards: Settling In
- Time to relax and prepare for the start of classes on Monday.
