Thank You, Tobi Joseph-Johnson!

Our Student Experience Manager is leaving UPIC to join the International Office at University of Plymouth, bringing 14 years of experience to his new role.

It is with great pride, and a touch of sadness, that we say farewell to our long-standing Student Experience Manager: Tobi Joseph-Johnson. Next week, he’ll start his new role as Senior International Officer for the University of Plymouth. While we’ll miss him dearly, we’re so proud of everything he’s achieved over the last decade with Navitas and UPIC!

Born in England and raised in Nigeria, Tobi returned to the UK to study BA (Hons) Accounting and Finance at University of Plymouth. He quickly felt at home here, going on to complete an MSc in Advertising, Strategy and Planning.

In 2011, Tobi burst onto the scene as Student Experience Officer for Navitas and UPIC. After having such a good experience as an international student himself, he wanted to give back and make a real impact on the next wave of Plymouth students. His kind nature and positive energy flowed through the College from Day 1! We soon realised he had a unique ability to connect with people, whether he was offering guidance or simply being there to listen.

Over time, Tobi built strong connections with colleagues across the University as well as with international agents. This created a network that’s benefited thousands of students on their academic journey. He also used his strategic mindset and analytical skills to improve internal processes, designing new support systems for students. Without a shadow of a doubt, this has influenced UPIC’s excellent student satisfaction results.

Tobi has supported countless prospective students on his travels across West Africa. Thanks to his friendly and down-to-earth approach, he connected easily with students during international recruitment trips. He’s always the first to welcome new students to the College! As you can imagine, this makes him a much-loved member of our community. Tobi regularly attends our social events because he’s passionate about celebrating culture and diversity in Plymouth.

In his free time, Tobi is an avid Arsenal supporter and five-a-side footballer. He’s also a fan of the fantastic West African restaurants dotted around Plymouth’s city centre. When he’s not doing all that, you’ll find him spending time with his family or exploring the beautiful Devon countryside with his dog.

As much as we’ll miss seeing Tobi every day, the good news is that he’s not going far! He’ll be joining the University of Plymouth as a Senior International Officer. His role will be to lead international recruitment and build partnerships across Europe and Sub-Saharan Africa. With his wealth of experience, sharp global perspective, and natural ability to foster strong professional relationships; we’re confident he’ll continue to make a difference moving forward.

We’d like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Tobi for his many years of service. He’s been a joy to work with and he’s made an incredible impact on the College community. We’re excited to see what he achieves next…!

My time with Navitas and the University of Plymouth International College has been truly special. Working alongside the dedicated UPIC team has been inspiring, their passion, support, and genuine care for our students create such a positive environment. Together, we’ve made a real difference in students’ lives and in each other’s.
